Freddie Mercury was the lead vocalist of British rock band Queen. His flamboyant stage presence and four octave vocal range created the band’s signature style. He wrote such massive hits for the band as “Killer Queen'', “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Somebody to Love”, and “We are the Champions”. Mercury was known for having one of the most charismatic and theatrical stage presences of all time. His death at 45 came suddenly to the public, but was the result of his long standing battle with AIDs. He was the most famous person in the world to contract the disease at this point and he passed 24 hours after announcing his diagnosis publicly. Elizabeth Taylor spoke of Mercury as, “an extraordinary rock star who rushed across our cultural landscape like a comet across the sky.”
